Leica Pro Discovery Day with John Kreidler

Leica Q Owners Workshop – Boston, MA

FEBRUARY 23RD, 2019 - 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM


A hands-on workshop for current owners of the Leica Q. Owners shoot with their own cameras and learn practical skills to enhance their Q experience with a professional Leica instructor. This session will help ensure that you are making the most of the capabilities of the Q. The Leica instructor will lead you through understanding the menu system, recommended settings and step by step tips to help you increase the accuracy of your metering and speed of focus. The workshop is arranged with a flexible schedule, so the group can organically discuss and share feedback, based on their unique areas of interest or desired areas of improvement. Having personal access to a seasoned Leica instructor will give you an unparalleled opportunity to ask tough questions and receive practical attention.

Gallery Opening and Artist Talk - "ZOI" by Stella Johnson

Stella Johnson is a photographer and educator known for her passionate and honest documentary projects. She received a Core Fulbright Scholar Grant to photograph in Mexico in 2003, and Fulbright Senior Specialist grants to teach in Mexico in 2006 and in Colombia in 2018. The University of Maine Press published her monograph, Al Sol: Photographs from Mexico, Cameroon and Nicaragua in 2008. Johnson’s photographs have been widely exhibited in the United States and internationally. A dedicated educator, Johnson holds teaching positions at Boston University and Lesley University College of Art and Design. She also teaches workshops in Greece, Cuba, and Mexico. She was a 2013 finalist for the Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellowship, Photolucida Critical Mass Top 50, and a nominee for the Boston Foundation’s Brother Thomas Fellowship. Johnson’s work has received numerous honors including a New England Foundation for the Arts Cultural Collaborative Artist-in-Residence Grant and Julia Margaret Cameron Award.Johnson holds a BFA from The San Francisco Art Institute and an MS in Journalism from Boston University. Her work is held in public collections including The DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, The Haggerty Museum of Art, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Portland Museum of Art, and The Southeast Museum of Photography, among others.

Leica Akademie Master Class - Seeing Boston with Stella Johnson

This workshop will help students learn to see and photograph the extraordinary in their ordinary, everyday experiences. You will learn to make compelling images within one city block or at the Museum of Fine Arts, the Institute for Contemporary Art, the Gardner Museum and on the train traveling to these locations from Park Plaza. It will be great mixing art with image-making. We will be looking at light, composition, color, texture and moment while photographing interior and exterior landscapes. Students will learn to see light and the city of Boston in a new way. The class will participate in two critique sessions, enhancing your ability to look at and talk about what makes a strong image so interesting.

Leica Akademie USA and fine art photographer and director Mark de Paola present an exclusive three-day workshop in Boston the weekend of March 29-31, 2019. Building on the success of Mark’s “Photography Wide Open” one-day workshops, this event provides the opportunity to experience the creative process Mark goes through when creating stills and video for some of the biggest names in the fashion industry. The streets of Boston will provide our backdrop for this real world, fashion assignment with Mark de Paola. Going beyond simply talking about the elements or theories behind a successful fashion image, this program will take you “On-Location” to learn, first hand, what it takes to connect with a model and create signature images for your portfolio. Mark’s career delivering projects for clients ranging from Vogue covers to Gucci campaigns and fine art photographic exhibitions will provide the foundation for the class.
